Animal Birth Control(ABC)

Millions of dogs and cats live on the streets of India, homeless, unwanted and abused. Animal Birth Control (ABC) is a sterilization operations for male and female dogs and cats, so that the population of these animals stabilizes. These animals are also given Anti Rabies Vaccination(ARV) to stop the spread of Rabies.

Rescue of Birds

Each year, during Uttarayan, the kite flying festival, thousands of birds  are injured due to manjas. VFA through timely surgeries and post operative care, under Jivadaya Charitable Trust, does its bit in keeping our winged cousins free.

Training veterinary doctors and para veterinarians for rescue operations and surgeries is an important activity for VFA. VFA also works with Animal Welfare Officers to offer them training in first aid and other technical help.

Caring for Animal Health

VFA has sterilized more than 30,000 dogs and vaccinated 14,000 dogs across a number of locations, including Satara, Sangali, Kolhapur, Magalwedha and Nagpur in Maharashtra; Rajkot in Gujrat; Banglore, Chintamani and Hubli in Karnataka. The organization has also conducted many ABC camps in rural locations, giving regular surgical training sessions to field vets.

Since last four years, VFA has provided technical services to assist in the treatment of injured birds during Uttarayan, the Kite Festival in Ahmedabad.

VFA is working to minimize rabies incidence through vaccination programmes and plans to open an animal hospital at Koparde Haveli, Karad to provide treatment for large and small animals in the rural area.

VFA is active co partner in Mission Rabies, an international project with Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS), U.K., Dog Trust U.K., AWBI India and many more NGOs in the mass anti-rabies vaccination program all over India. VFA lead Mission Rabies in Nagpur where 5101 stray and owner dogs were vaccinated against rabies in Sept 2013. Also,in the state of Goa, VFA is carrying out the ABC project under Mission Rabies.

VFA is an active member of ABC INDIA, a pan-Indian trust, of Indian animal welfare organizations and technical specialists in Animal Birth Control, which is committed to a scientifically-based, humane reduction of India's dog population, the eradication of rabies and helping people and dogs co-exist in harmony.
